Having played a lot of Battlelore lately, I am just not interested in another version of the system, less one that contains more fiddly game mechanics.

Interesting to read your perspective though!

I felt the same at first Giles, but after playing the game I was really impressed with its unique feel; hence the article. Besides, I also enjoy BattleLore, Memoir ’44 and C&C: Ancients, and they all have a similar rules system – but they all feel like different games.

    Great review.

That’s a fair point! I only have so much room in my game cupboard for games that overlap though, and Battlelore seems to do the same job this game does…

I am, however, looking at getting back into some miniatures wargames – I was thinking either DBA or Basic Impetus – partly for the hobby aspect, partly for the historical themes… Sad to say – I used to collect DBA and DBM armies but gave them up for board gaming! :D

    Cheers,

    Giles.

    Great review, opinion appreciated.

I have been trying to decide which of these two games to get. I’d like to own both but only want to start with one. Only wish I had discovered BattleLore much much sooner.
