Stellar Conquest
As a lover of the Muppets, it was the Muppets Board game (1977)
I can remember wearing the daggy clothes my parents put me in (probably brown cords and yellow skivvy) and sitting down to a fun game of this after watching the muppets on TV.
Hungry Hungry Hippos and Scrable
The star wars Death Star game, but that is probably because I was a starwars crazy kid at the time…… Hm not much has changed.
I cannot tell a lie. It’s Risk. This game has never left my life since I was 8 year old. My most memorable moment was when I copped a proper backstab from my cousin. I burned away my armies trying to pay him back; didn’t work!
Careers or Payday, both were owned by my grandparents and they were the first thing we grabbed when we went over to see them.
Hot Property, while i dont remember the game or how it played out, who can forget the yellow movie canister box, no decaying cardboard!! why didn’t it take off?
Twister. The edition we’ve got is from 1974, and the box cover makes it look like the only way to play is in skivvies, flairs and bad hair!
Monopoly without a doubt. It just has everything you need for a good fun board game.
Parker Bros did a fantastic job of livening up the classic game of Chess for kids and adults alike, with their ’70s variant: Smess. I loved this game as a kid. Every square was covered with bright, crazy arrows and pointing hands to show which way you could (and couldn’t) move, and the playing pieces were just as zany with Ninnies, Numskulls and The Brain. They called it “The Ninny’s Chess”, with it’s simplified rules, but you never felt like a Ninny playing it. Sadly it’s no longer in production anymore, but with a young son of my own I just had to track one down – and I’m happy to report that the next generation now loves it, too!

I grew up playing the Dukes of Hazzard BG with my brother. It was great switching from slow, safe dirt road to obstacle laden highway. He’d always be the General Lee & I’d be Cooter’s Pickup both racing towards Uncle Jesse’s Farm.

Scrabble!!!!
“Junta.” A game with it all. Table top war, political intrigue, lobbying, back stabbing, factions, finance, assassinations and a banana republic on the edge of revolution. A great game that could split friendships and bring down governments.
I’d have to say the Classic 1977 Cosmic Encounter. First played it when I was 13, still playing it today!
My favourite game from this era would be Acquire (1962). Recently re-printed by Hasbro, this is a great economic game. Easy to learn and fun to play.
I’m new to games and I am looking forward to learning about all these great games and playing some of them – from the 70′s I’d like to play COSMIC ENCOUNTER -I like the idea of special powers!
